What?

Learning Design is the intentional and systematic process of creating effective and engaging learning experiences. It involves planning, sequencing, and structuring instructional activities, content, and assessments to optimise learning outcomes using technology tools and resources.

How?

Analysis. Conducting a thorough analysis of the learning needs and objectives. This involves identifying the target audience, understanding their prior knowledge and learning styles, and determining the desired learning outcomes.

Planning and sequencing. Determine the order and structure of the instructional materials, deciding on the delivery methods (e.g., in-person, online), and selecting appropriate resources and technology tools.

Assessment and evaluation. Define assessment methods, such as quizzes or projects to measure student learning and progress. Assessment and evaluation provide insights into the efficacy of the learning design and inform future instructional decisions.

Why?

Benefits of learning design:

  • improves instructional effectiveness

  • fosters engagement

  • enhances learning outcomes

  • optimises use of resources

  • facilitates continuous improvement
