Who?
Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) was an Austrian philosopher, educator, and founder of Waldorf education. He advocated for holistic education, emphasising the development of the whole child —intellectually, artistically, emotionally, and spiritually.
What?
Holistic education: This approach recognises the interconnectedness of various facets of human development (intellectual, artistic, emotional, and spiritual) and seeks to nurture them all within the educational setting.
Developmentally aligned curriculum: An approach that recognises that children progress through different stages of cognitive, emotional, and social development. Educational methods should be tailored to match these stages.
Artistic and imaginative expression: Steiner believed that the arts, including visual arts, music, movement, and drama, play a vital role in fostering creativity, engaging students' senses, and enhancing their learning experiences.
Why?
Steiner’s work has directly shaped:
holistic education
developmentally-aligned curriculums
integrated arts education
